Germany was fun to make - and I looked forward to making it. Between baking a cake, saying German words, and then ... we may have watched Inglourious Basterds afterwards ... because it was set in Germany. Not really our best positive outlook for a German film, but it was either that or The Book Thief, where everyone dies in the end.
Yeah, you say Germany, I say WWII, automatically.
I would like to someday go to Germany, though. My mom and my brother can speak some German. Watch out also for the fun little authentic German products we make.
I decided to make Authentic Wiener Schnitzel Recipe (thespruceeats.com) and Black Forest Cake ⋆ My German Recipes. Then, BF had some potato dumplings and brown sauce that was sent to him by his ex before he met me, who moved to Germany. They were fun to make! Thanks, Linda!
First, whip up some eggs and make a very light and creamy chocolate batter. BAKE!
Let the cake cool; then make a nice cherry syrup; look at that bloomed gelatin! Whip some cream and add the activated gelatin to it. ASSEMBLY TIME!
CAKE ASSEMBLY TIME!!!
Let it chill and move on to the rest of the meal.
BF and I had to google these products to learn how to cook them, as the instructions on them were all in German. The potato dumplings were boiled in the little papers they came in - and the little brown sauce was a basic little brown sauce. Nice!
Get the ingredients out and pound the pork until thin.
Then.... bread it!
Fry off your breaded meat in the melted fat until cooked!
The Mexican coleslaw was a leftover that served as cabbage, lolz. The pork was fatty, tender, and YUMMY. The potato dumplings were soft, fluffy, and tasted nice with the brown sauce. BF and my brother enjoyed it all, too.
About halfway or so through beer and Inglourious Basterds, I finished assembling the cake:
So soft, so chocolaty - bright cherry and almond taste, a great combination of soft and spongy textures - I loved it!

Would I make it again? 9/10, can't make the dumplings and brown sauce again, but I'd make the rest in a heartbeat!
