My poor boyfriend couldn't partake of Ireland because of his specific diet, and he was the one who actually went and visited there!
I already knew what I wanted to make. I found these recipes Traditional Irish Shepherd's Pie Recipe - Food.com and Guinness Cake Recipe - Food.com and was instantly pleased.
First, you gather your ingredients (for the cake)...
Cream some butter and sugar together, portion out your Guiness, and mix up a batter:
Next, shepherd's pie! Boil up potatoes and sauté your veg and meat.
Break your cake when getting it out...don't skip this step, it's very important...
And melt your chocolate with some more Guiness and add powdered sugar!!! You will see the result in a second.
Next, assemble the shepherd's pie - I will not elaborate further You should know the components of a shepherd's pie by now.
That was baked until done :)
Oh, twas glorious, kind gentlefolk. The shepherd's pie was savory, meaty, full of gravy and a little lumpy mashed potato. The parmesan crust on top was *chef's kiss*.
The chocolate cake? A twinge too dry, but with a deep chocolaty flavor that was made more chocolaty by the addition of the Guiness. The walnuts added a crunchy texture (but I'll leave them out next time ;))
These were enjoyed by me and my brother and his girlfriend (wonderful company, 10/10 :D), and a portion was set aside for BF for when he could finally enjoy his long-awaited shepherd's pie.
